I bought some clementines today because the kids love them and the season is so short. There were no loose ones left so I bought some bagged ones – yes, I know, but with small children, I do have to find a balance between them and ZWS. When I was cutting open the net at home to put them in the fruit bowl, I noticed that the recycling information said “Net and Film (label) – Plastic, recyclable at a larger Sainsburys”. Meaning that they were both made of plastic 4 because I have a larger Sainsburys near me and they will take all plastic 4 back, not just their own carrier bags. Result!

Tesco, skimmed milk powder, Tesco
LJayne
I use skimmed milk powder in my bread maker because the recipe works so much better than with real milk. Tesco now sell this product packed in purely in a cardboard box with a paper liner containing the powder. No horrible crinkly plastic in sight

Boots, Opaque 70 Denier Tights, Boots
LJayne
I needed some more plain black tights to wear with skirts & winter boots. So sent my faithful dear husband off to Boots to buy some. He bought a 3pk and the only packaging they had was a piece of cardboard, cleverly folded to hold the 3 pairs stacked one under the other. Nothing else woohoo. No plastic of any kind.

Post Office, Parcel Tape
LJayne
There is definitely a debate about whether we should be using parcel tape at all but often it comes in the same plastic wrapping on a cardboard backing as lots of stationery. But I bought some in the Post Office this morning and the outer wrapping was entirely cardboard. No plastic or shrinkwrap in sight! And the inner tube is cardboard too.

Cornish sea salt, Sea salt 500gms, Over farm market
Mrs Green
This is a large tub of sea salt in a PP (#5) container and lid. Some areas have recycling collections for PP at bring banks and kerbside. Otherwise you can save it up and post to GHS for reprocessing (http://myzerowaste.com/2008/08/recycle-plastics-thanks-to-ghs/). You can also buy this product online or search for your nearest stockist here: http://www.cornishseasalt.co.uk/where_to_buy.htm

Hello LJayne, that’s a good find definitely. You’re right, parcel tape seems to be overtaking the world, I mean it’s everywhere and there is little alternative that’s convenient to use. To find one with good packaging is a least something less for the landfill!
Thanks for your post, we’ll look out for this tape when we go next to the PO
